Purpose: While it could be used for combat, it was primarily a utility tool issued to U.S. Army medics, machine gun crews, and engineers to clear brush, fields of fire, or improvise materials like stretchers.
Model 1917 Improvements: This model was an update to the earlier M1910, famously removing the scabbard catch on the grip to simplify the design.
Manufacturer: Produced in 1918 by Fayette R. Plumb Inc. (at their St. Louis plant).
Construction: It features a heavy-duty, high-carbon steel blade, a steel guard, and dark walnut wood grips secured by two large bolts.
